State income tax withholding
Business Tax ID (Taxpayer Access Point)
New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department (TRD)
- You'll receive:
- A New Mexico Business Tax Identification Number (NMBTIN) covering withholding and the workers' comp fee, plus a mailed registration certificate.
- Send Unify:
- Your NMBTIN.
In the Taxpayer Access Point, choose "Apply for a New Mexico Business Tax ID." Older forms call this number the CRS number.

Unemployment insurance account (UI Tax & Claims System)
New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS)
- You'll receive:
- An employer account number (EAN) and a mailed user ID and password to activate the account. The 2026 new-employer rate is 1.00% to 1.28% depending on industry, on the first $34,800 of wages.
- Send Unify:
- Your EAN and your rate notice.
NMDWS won't accept wage reports or payments until the account is activated.

Workers' compensation fee
New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department (for the Workers' Compensation Administration)
- You'll receive:
- No separate account: the fee runs under your NMBTIN. It's $4.80 per covered employee per quarter ($2.55 employer, $2.25 employee).
- Send Unify:
- Nothing extra; the fee is filed under your NMBTIN.
Paying this fee is not the same as having workers' comp insurance.
